When tying the knot, it’s important to take into consideration that the bridal party should feel as fabulous as you do. Creating a special wedding day presentation is all about designing the right look with each girl in mind. When it comes to bridesmaid dresses, many women choose to go for a complimentary color that enhances the over-all scheme of the wedding. This can mean selecting a color that corresponds to the flower bouquets, or other emerging secondary hues in fabric or decor.

In addition to color, there are a few more things to keep in mind when considering the style, fit and fabric of your maids dresses. Remember that not all women in your bridal party are the same shape. The wearability of the silhouette should flatter each woman’s personal size and body type.

Now, more than ever, brides are choosing a uniformed color but a different style and cut for each maid, so that they too look fabulous!

Choosing a Bridal Headpiece

January 9, 2012 in Couture Experience, Uncategorized

Jewel-encrusted tiaras shine, veils drape elegantly and silk headpieces grab the attention of all around. When it comes to complimenting your gown, the options are truly limitless. Bridal headpieces can be done in a variety of ways and have been flawlessly executed for centuries.

There are many bridal veil styles and lengths. The veil can conceal the face or can be worn at the top and back of the head to accentuate a piece of bridal head jewelry. A wraparound style brow band with veil, for example, will frame and highlight your facial features.

Tiaras are produced in array of metals and most often crafted with floral arrangements or gorgeous crystal and stone inlays. The wedding tiara will compliment both long and short hairstyles and can be designed with a drop veil.

The veiled hat is also an elegant option.

Marie-Margot Gown Featured in Spicer’s Weddings Ad for 303 Magazine’s Party Issue

January 4, 2012 in News, Uncategorized

A Marie-Margot gown was recently featured in a Spicer’s Weddings ad in 303 Magazine’s December 2011 Party Issue!

We asked Mary Spicer, owner of Spicer’s Weddings, to share the story behind the ad and a few things Marie-Margot readers should know about her company.

Mary Spicer: In the Spicer’s Weddings ad, I fell in love with the idea of a 20 lb. rabbit and found Geneva. I think rabbits are so luxurious. At the moment the photo was taken at the Jet hotel, I told our model Zoe that this is the moment in Alice in Wonderland when the Duchesses baby Alice is holding turns into a pig. That’s the shot. I love it. In weddings you choose things because you love or don’t love. Why would you have a human chandelier in your cocktail hour? Because you love the idea. People are unique. They are unique because of what they enjoy. Their loves. Couples that love to climb have had photo shoots and ceremonies on cliffs. Maybe you are an avid skier and ski down the mountain with the bridal party and guests after your ceremony. I love finding out the couples story and accenting that. That is what makes a unique wedding. The couples’ story.

About Spicer’s Weddings: Spicer’s Weddings is the sister company to Spicer’s Events. Spicer has been creating events for over 18 years. She and her staff are dedicated to personalized service and attentiveness to successfully meet your individual needs.

“There are no ready-made packages, no stale cliches, just fantastic ideas focused on your vision.”

Mary Spicer: That’s why we will not have more than one wedding per weekend or week depending on the length of the events. Our weddings have lasted anywhere from two days to two weeks. We are on site for the entire event. From welcoming cocktails to goodbye. Many of our couples have welcome cocktails on the arrival night, game day, rehearsal and dinner, ceremony and reception and travelers brunch on the last day as a thank you and time to say goodbye.

Spicer’s Wedddings and Events caters to the savvy client, including A-listers and celebrities like Robben Ford, Blues Traveler, Bob and Suzanne Wright, Larry Carlton and the band Phish. Most have had prior experience working with event planners.

Mary Spicer: This means they are looking for the latest. We are right off the runway fresh and plugged in to the latest and newest trends in fashion, design, cuisine, and music. What you can imagine, we create with an amazing team. We design in 5D (sound, taste, touch, sight, smell), engaging all of the senses. Spicer’s Weddings and Spicer’s Events understand the need for perfection and high standard.

Spicer opened an office in Denver on December 1, 2011. She also has offices in Newport, RI and NY, NY. For more information visit: http://www.spicersweddings.com.

Wedding Dress Color Trends

December 28, 2011 in Couture Experience, Uncategorized

Pale non-white wedding gown hues have been making their way on the runway. From light pinks to pale purples, color is no longer just reserved for the bridal party. These fashion-forward wedding dress colors are perfect for any time of year and, with a little planning, can compliment the color scheme of any wedding day gala.

Marie-Margot designer, Maggie Burns, says first time brides are choosing colors such as soft green, pink and blue for their couture designs. Today’s brides are even selecting the darker champagne colors and strikingly beautiful shades of red.

Pure white and ivory are traditional wedding gown colors; but for brides who are looking to be adorned in color on their wedding day, the full color gowns or color accents are an option.

The High Low Hemline Wedding Dress Trend!

December 21, 2011 in Couture Experience, Uncategorized

Marie Margot

Wedding dress designers like Maggie Burns, of Marie-Margot Bridal Couture, showcase new trends each year; all of which are fashioned and created to meet the needs of the modern day bride-to-be. Although dramatically different from full-bodied princess silhouettes, the latest wedding dress trend is the high low hemline and can be considered the best of both worlds. The train in the back gives the vintage bridal look, while the front proves very worthy of the modern bride.

A versatile gown like this would be perfect for a Spring / Summer wedding or an indoor /outdoor reception. If the back of the dress is not too compromising, the bride could easily go from wedding to dance floor.

According to Glamour, fellow industry designers like Claire Pettibone, Anna Maier Ula-Maija Couture, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, and Wtoo have all incorporated this trend into their 2011/2012 collections.

Incorporating Mother’s Wedding Dress

December 15, 2011 in Couture Experience, Uncategorized

Something Borrowed

As years pass, what’s in fashion can come and go. With so many different trends and styles coming out each year, some stand the test of time while others get left in the past.

As wonderful idea it is to wear a vintage wedding gown that belonged to someone special; fit and style may not always be complimentary. The Wedding day should be the most special day of a bride’s life. She truly wants it to be the day of her dreams; and wearing a dress that’s not only perfect but fits is a major concern.

Most mothers dream of the day her dress will be worn by her daughter. Unfortunately, the dress could be outdated and not all mothers and daughters are the same size. If your mother is willing to hand her’s down to you, incorporating her gown into your own can symbolically unite the past with the present. For example, a Marie-Margot client decided to use the slip from her grandmother’s gown. Below is the digital version of a book that Christine Kosoff made for Designer Maggie Burns as a thank you gift. Enjoy.

There are also other ways to use ‘something borrowed’. You could always choose to wear the same veil that was worn by your mother or grandmother, or even use the lace from the veil in your own. Whatever way you choose to incorporate something from the past, make sure it fits you and your lifestyle…It’s your day. It’s your dream. It’s your dress©!
